Will USD/CHF Continue Its Recent Upward Momentum?

A Significant Technical Breakout Strengthens the Bullish Trend

The USD/CHF currency pair continues to show strength after breaking decisively above a descending triangle pattern that had been developing over the past few months.

The breakout marked a shift in the pair’s technical structure and handed control back to buyers. Following the sharp upward move, the price pulled back to retest the moving average zone, which is now acting as dynamic support.

The first target for the current move is the 0.8042 area, where the previous high was established at the end of March.

A breakout above this level could confirm the continuation of the bullish momentum and pave the way for a new higher high.

The Swiss Interest Rate Decision Could Be the Next Catalyst

Beyond the positive technical picture, investors are now focused on the upcoming Swiss National Bank interest rate decision and the remarks from SNB Chairman Martin Schlegel.

Market expectations suggest that interest rates will remain unchanged at 0.00%, but attention will primarily be directed toward any comments regarding the Swiss franc.

In recent months, the franc has strengthened amid growing geopolitical uncertainty, and the Swiss National Bank has repeatedly emphasized its willingness to intervene in the foreign exchange market if necessary to prevent excessive appreciation of the domestic currency.

Such intervention typically involves selling Swiss francs and purchasing foreign currencies, a move that could support further gains in USD/CHF.

An Additional Advantage for Long USD/CHF Positions

In addition to the potential for further price appreciation, long positions in USD/CHF currently benefit from positive rollover interest, commonly known as positive swaps.

The interest rate differential between the United States and Switzerland creates a favorable environment for traders holding long positions over time, as they may receive a daily credit for maintaining their positions overnight.

The combination of positive technical momentum, the possibility of Swiss National Bank intervention, and favorable swap rates continues to support the bullish outlook for the pair.

Combining Technical and Fundamental Factors

At this stage, both the technical and fundamental outlooks support the continuation of the recent upward momentum.

If the Swiss National Bank maintains a dovish tone and reiterates its willingness to intervene in the foreign exchange market, the probability of further gains toward the previous high and potentially beyond could increase.

The coming days are expected to be crucial for the pair, as the market’s reaction to the interest rate decision and the central bank’s communication may determine the short-term direction.
